Goodreads Description :
A dark and tender post-apocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war.

In a city where humans and Darklings are now separated by a high wall and tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war, sixteen-year-olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary, meet and do the unthinkable—they fall in love. Bonded by a mysterious connection that causes Ash’s long-dormant heart to beat, Ash and Natalie first deny and then struggle to fight their forbidden feelings for each other, knowing if they’re caught, they’ll be executed—but their feelings are too strong.

When Ash and Natalie then find themselves at the center of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to pull the humans and Darklings back into war, they must make hard choices that could result in both their deaths.

Review :
This is the first dystopian book I've read this year. The idea of this book is unique and intriguing. It's not like the other dystopian book. It's a dark romance story that mixed with political and religious issues. Black city was about forbidden love between a human and a twin-blood (half darkling and half human). Since the first time Ash and Natalie met each other, they could feel the attraction between them but they also couldn't stand each other. He didn't like the Sentry and he thought that Natalie was just like the other Sentry. On the other hand, Natalie also hated Darkling because what they did to her father. They tried to fight their attraction, but in the end they weren't strong enough and decided to start a relationship. But they had to hide their true feeling because at that time, a relationship between Darkling and Human was considered as a capital crime.

Life had gotten worse in the Black City when some Hazers died because of the golden haze. The goverment was determined to prove that Darkling was behind this mess. They wanted to put the blame on the darkling so people would vote for Rose's law to segregated Humans and Darklings. But it was never as it seems. When the truth came out, the war broke out.

My favorite character from this book is Ash. He is a bad boy type, a little rebellious but caring. He's not perfect and sometimes I don't really like what he did in the story. The author also create a strong villain character. Purian Rose sounds so evil. Even if the book is a little predictable, I like the world the author created. The world building is great and the world seems so vivid. I like the ending of the book. One more thing I love about the book is the cover. It's so beautiful and can make a person want to pick the book. Overall, I enjoy the book and I would like to recommend the book to everyone.

I give Black City 4 out of 5 stars.
